Gallery: Landscape Pieces

Pieces on the Landscape Theme capture the essence of the North Yorkshire countryside. Some include elements of its ruined castles and abbeys. The imagery is achieved by the use of coloured slips and ochre, applied over plant material and textured in various ways. Several bean and pea ash glazes are then poured onto the pieces, overlapping to produce complex surface effects.

Large Square Landscape Platter Commission

Ash glazed white stoneware with coloured slips and local ochre, approx 45cm

Ash glazed white stoneware with coloured slips and local ochre, approx 45cm

Carol was commissioned to produce this large 45x45cm platter recently.

Unusually it has very precise scribed edges and the colours are very subtle, to meet the client's brief. This was achieved by using a white stoneware clay with Carol's signature plant ash glazes and textures.

The piece was very well received.
